Ready to earn college credit? Registering for college credit courses is an important step toward achieving your academic and career goals. Choose from a variety of courses that fit your interests, schedule, and future plans. Whether you're starting your degree, continuing to the next semester of your program, transferring credits, or exploring new subjects, our registration process makes it easy to get started.

Register for Credit Classes

Registration is your first step toward a successful semester. By registering early, you give yourself the best chance to choose the courses and class times that fit your goals and schedule. Whether you're planning ahead or finalizing your plans, registering by the semester start helps ensure a smooth start to the semester and keeps you on track for academic success.

Your Invitation to Register Email

When it's time for you to register you'll receive an email to your Âé¶¹Íø email with instructions on how to register.

Invitations to register are sent to students who are accepted to begin their program in the upcoming semester.

If you're accepted to a future semester and would like to take classes now, contact the Admissions office at 319-296-4000 or email Admissions. They can accept you to a pre-program that will allow you to register for pre-coursework.

Register to Secure Your Seat

Registration is first-come, first-served. Some programs fill up fast and have their own deadlines. If you wait too long to sign up, you might lose your spot in the program, and your application could become inactive.

Note: If you took some time off and missed a fall or spring semester, you will need to to re-activate your program.

Step 1: Plan

Plan your class schedule carefully to keep changes to a minimum. Program length, cost, and financial aid may be affected if you change your courses or even a course section.

  1. Run a Degree Audit. A degree audit is a planning tool that helps you keep track of your progress toward finishing your degree requirements.
  2. Meet with your academic advisor to select classes and review your program progress. Your academic advisor will help to ensure you:
    1. are registering for the right classes in the correct course sequences
    2. understand your degree requirements
    3. are making progress towards graduation.
  3. . See what course sections are available and select the ones that fit your schedule. Course search is available three weeks before registration begins so you can start planning early! Course search is open for Summer and Fall 2026. Planning ahead? Spring 2027 course search opens October 5.

Step 2: Register

Note: you will not be able to register if you have a hold on your student account.

Summer and Fall 2026 registration is open. Spring 2027 registration opens October 27.

Registration Deadline

The registration deadline for 16-week Fall 2026 classes is August 25.

You can register on your own in through August 20.

To register August 21–25, you'll need to work with an academic advisor and get a faculty signature for approval to register.

Late Registration Policy

Step 1: Plan

  1. Visit with your academic advisor at your current college or university to be sure the courses you'd like to take at Âé¶¹Íø will transfer.
  2. and note the section and six digit course number. Course search is open for Summer and Fall 2026. Planning ahead? Spring 2027 course search opens October 5.
  3. If a course has a prerequisite we require you to provide proof that you have met the prerequisite.

Note: some courses are reserved for Âé¶¹Íø students enrolled in a specific program of study.

Step 2: Apply to Âé¶¹Íø

Note: If you were registered for a class in the fall or spring semester prior to the one you're now looking to enroll in, you can skip this step.

Step 3: Register for Classes

Once your application is processed, you'll get an email from the Registrar's Office with registration instructions. This may take up to two business days.

To register, email the Registrar's Office with the section and six digit course number of each class you want to register for. Include proof of prerequisites, if required.

Be sure to also include your first and last name along with your Âé¶¹Íø student ID number.

Summer and Fall 2026 registration is open. Spring 2027 registration opens October 27.

Step 4: Activate your myÂé¶¹Íø Account

Once registered, you'll get an email from the Registrar's Office. This may take up to two business days. This email will also have instructions on how to activate your myÂé¶¹Íø account and other important information.

A Note About Financial Aid

Guest students cannot receive financial aid through Âé¶¹Íø. Contact your college or university's financial aid office to ask about aid for classes taken at Âé¶¹Íø.

Registering = Tuition Charged

Your student account is charged for every credit you register for, whether or not you attend. If you decide not to take a class, be sure to drop the class before the Tuition Refund Deadline to avoid paying for a course you don't want. Payment is due on the first day of class. Set up a payment plan or pay your bill in full.

How Class Time Translates to Credit

At Âé¶¹Íø, the number of credits you earn for a course is based on state requirements and the type of learning experience. These guidelines ensure your classes meet minimum contact time standards. The Registrar's Office reviews courses to make sure those requirements are met.

One contact hour equals 50 minutes.

Lecture

Lecture courses are traditional classroom classes led by an instructor.

  • 16 contact hours (800 minutes) = 1 credit
  • Plan on about two hours of studying or preparation for every hour you're in class

Lab

Lab courses give you hands-on experience applying what you're learning, with guidance from an instructor throughout the class.

  • 32 contact hours (1,600 minutes) = 1 credit
  • Plan on about one hour of preparation for every hour you're in class

Clinical

Clinical courses focus on building skills in a real or simulated healthcare setting, such as a clinic, hospital, or campus facility. You'll practice patient care under supervision.

  • 48 contact hours (2,400 minutes) = 1 credit

Work Experience

Work experience courses—such as co-ops, practicums, or field experiences—are planned with Âé¶¹Íø and your employer. Your day-to-day work is supervised by the employer.

  • 64 contact hours (3,200 minutes) = 1 credit

The College adheres to requirements set by for definition of, and alignment to: credit hours, instructional methods, minimum minutes, minimum contact hours, and semester credit hour.
